The H.L. Lindquist Stamp Specialist Series...

An anthology of outstanding articles by the premier students of the time on U.S., CSA, BNA and foreign topics spread across 20 volumes issued between 1939 and 1948. I have had requests for the contents of individual volumes. Therefore, I am now offering individual volumes for sale when available with CSA articles noted. A full set of 20 generally sells between $300-400 depending upon condition. Commodities like quality cloth and paper were scarce during the WWII years when these were printed. While hardbound, the boards are covered with colored paper instead of cloth. The text in most instances is printed on a high sulfate paper that has yellowed with time. Most copies show chipping at the top and bottom edges of the spine, which are generally faded.

Immortal Captives: The Story of 600 Confederate Officers and the United States Prisoner of War Policy by Mauriel P. Joslyn, Pelican Publishing, HB, 344 pages. Using diaries and official correspondence, Joslyn relates the story of the courageous 600 Confederate prisoners of war singled out for retaliatory treatment similar to that suffered by Union prisoners in Confederate prisons. Reacting to horror stories of Andersonville, the North began to treat Confederate prisoners as it believed Union prisoners were being treated. It finally ceased all prisoner exchanges to deny the South valuable fighting men. The "immortal 600" bore the brunt of "retaliatory" cruelty, often surviving on only a few wormy crackers and pickles as a daily ration. One of the most poignant and fascinating stories of the War. New, unread pristine volume. $30.
