CSA Gallery of Curious Things
Counterfeits, Fakes, Fantasies, Facsimiles, Reprints
This page was formerly dedicated to the
Confederate Stamp Alliance Authentication Service. While I am still an active expertizing member, I am no longer the point of contact for the CSAAS. That page may now be found on the CSA website
My plans for revising this page also include a provenance section, which will show and list scanned owner backstamps as well as handwriting of known collectors and dealers through the past century plus. Check back regularly!
Also see the Trouble Spots section within the Confederate Primer Online on my "Articles" page. There are detailed descriptions of forgeries of the "T-E-N" and "frameline" issues and how to detect them, as well as other addressed difficulties.
An area that drives most of us crazy - eBay Rogues Gallery - Caveat Emptor! Buyer Beware!
The linked pages below are scans of an old-time Confederate fake collection that was sold at auction in April 2008. The pages, scanned in high resolution, are reproduced here with the permission of the new owner. They are a ready-made explanation of the most commonly encountered gallery of "curious things". Unless you have broadband, these will be slow to load. Use the zoom feature of your web browser to enlarge/see detail.
