[TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA] PAID 10 on edge worn cover to”Mrs. O.L. Stephens, Thomasville, Geo.” with photocopy of interesting original letter on letterhead of Head-Quarters, Military District of Florida headed Tallahassee Oct 24, 1864 from Davis Bryant to his sister “Tivie.” This is one of the most famous correspondences of the War and has been memorialized in the exceptional book Rose Cottage Chronicles: Civil War Letters of the Bryant-Stephens Families of North Florida. The correspondence consists of long articulate letters. The covers and letters were the subject of a Confederate Philatelist serialized article that won the Dietz Award 30+ years ago and the covers were sold in several Kaufmann auctions in the 1970s. ex Kaplan $220. |
